Carver is the other sibling of Hawke so will also be recruited automatically. The class you chose for your main character will affect how long Carver is a member of your party for. Your brother is a warrior and will respond well if you support any decision to control the mages. Carver will start the game with a slight rivalry for your character.
From here you must go to Darktown to confront Jeven. If you complete “The Long Road” none of the guards will stand with Jeven, meaning you only need to fight your garden variety enemy. If you contact me let Aveline take the lead in the conversation with Jeven then you will increase your freidnship. If you are dominant in the conversation then you will increase your rivalry.
